Why do doctors keep prescribing antibiotics for the flu when antibiotics are powerless against viruses?

Antibiotics are anti-bacterial, not anti-viral and doctors know that full well so why do they keep giving people antibiotics for no reason when they know that they will do more harm than good? Haven’t they pledged to do “no harm”?

Can you get the stomach flu a second time if you get near someone that has it. Even though you already had it

Everyone in my family had the stomach flu. My niece now gave it to her dad. Is it possible for my niece to get it again even after having it a week ago?

Also, how long are we congtagious for? How can be disinfect our home so that people will not be afraid to come over?
So as long as she has diarrhea she is still contagious?

Why do some people shake whenever they get a cold chill?

It’s just a curious question. Whenever I get a cold chill, I shake for a moment. I’m just wondering why that is?

How is it that the same people who applaud our military, laugh at universal health?

The government runs the military, and many find it to be the finest. So why when discussing Universal Health do the same people talk about the Dept of Motor Vehicles being an example of gov’t run health rather than the military?
cmdr- do you want it running the military?
laughing- the pentagon are also federal employees!
osam- I hope you don’t expect one to educate your kids with that attitude
jullian- very good

Can I go tanning if I have a ****** yeast infection?

This might be graphic, sorry. I got diagnosed with having a vaginal yeast infection and being the vain person that I am, I would still like to go tanning. Is it possible to go without causing more harm to the infection and especially more harm to other people. And should I tell the tanning place? Thank you.

Why can the body fight some infections but not others?

Why is it that if I caught flu, or measles, or mumps, or if I got a big yellow infected pimple, my body would be able to fight off the infection over a few days or weeks, and yet some people catch something like chlamydia and it just hangs around for ages and the body doesn’t get rid of it?
Ok, i’m talking on a base body chemistry level here. Lets assume that I have had no vaccinations, and I am not interested in treating symptoms, or in taking antibiotics. I want to know why the chemistry of the immune system, on a fundamental level (and I have a PhD, so be specific) is incapable of fighting off a mild infection like chlamydia? I mean, some perfectly fit young otherwise healthy people have it for 10 years? Do some people get it, their immune system gets rid of it, and it never gets diagnosed because they’re already cured? I don’t have chlamydia btw. I’m just curious.

Can you be charged for purposely spreading a virus to someone else?

Just a random question but I was wondering whether or not you could go to jail for spreading an infection (such as pink eye or strep throat) to various people on purpose.
Say I somehow contain the pink eye virus and I continuously keep spreading it to people within my school everyday for an entire year.
Would they be able to track me down?
And if they do manage to somehow catch me what would happen to me?
I’m 16 years old. Just curious.
The setting would be a high school.

Thanks.
